September Club Meeting

For the start of our new season, we thought it would be a good opportunity to see how well we all knew what our cameras were capable of and perhaps help us push the boundaries of the type of images we usually take.

We wanted to recognise that we have a wide range of skill levels within the club and hopefully designed an exercise that would push everyone to find out a little bit more about their camera and get them to think a little bit outside their comfort zone, whatever their ability level was.

So, we had a challenge to see how far everyone could go up a capability ladder. This starts out with some basic skills, such as switching between creating RAW images or Jpeg images and using a fixed focal length to take a picture. This then moves on to taking pictures in black and white, in square format, using ICM or multiple exposure.

It was an entertaining and, at times, challenging evening when many of us were finding out what the limits of our particular cameras were. Some definitely don’t like combining all of these features.

The evening concluded with everyone sharing their favourite image of the night. I’ve included some examples of the kind of thing we were trying to do, although none of these were images from the night.

And these are some examples of the kind of image we were challenged to produce.
