For our February meeting we welcomed local photographer Ashley Franklin who gave us a very informative and entertaining talk on his Derwent Valley Mills project.
Ashley is a very well known photographer in the Derbyshire area and has worked for Radio Derby, undertaken photographic commissions for Derby County Council, Derbyshire Dales and the Arkwright Society to name but a few. He has also been frequently featured in Derbyshire Life magazine among others.
So it is perhaps a bit of a surprise to find that he has only recently published his first book, entitled The Derwent Valley Mills and this talk was about how the concept of that book emerged, it’s development and the pitfalls that were overcome to reach publication.
Whilst this is predominantly Ashley’s creation, both in concept and the material within the book, he recognises contributions from a number of other well respected local photographers who also supported and supplied content for this book.
As you would perhaps expect from someone who has had a very successful career in the media, Ashely is a very good presenter and kept our members engaged and, at times amused, by the story and anecdotes about the creation of this book.
Thank you Ashley for a super evening.
Anyone interested in the book or any of his other work, you can find details on his website here.
