Monsal Dale Light Nights

For two Mondays in freezing February, a small contingent of members from the club joined Stephen Elliott and his mate Andy in darkest Monsal Dale to create some amazing images using nothing more than elaborate torches and a some Heath Robinson lighting equipment created by Stephen.

Because of space and safety constraints, numbers on the night were limited so we held the event over two consecutive Mondays to give all members the opportunity to participate.

Although cold, the company was warm and appreciative of the effort put in by Stephen and Andy. The resulting images, when first viewed on the back of the camera, after some very long exposures, often drew gasps and shouts of delight.

Most of the time, we had no idea what all the waving of lights was going to produce but we certainly weren’t disappointed. In every case the final picture was outstanding.

For many of us, operating our camera in pitch darkness whilst wrapped up against the cold, was a new experience, but a most enjoyable experience that has undoubtedly improved our ability and knowledge of our photographic equipment.

These are a few of the images we captured.
